Volleyball FAQ

What are Spartans?
Spartans Sports is a Christian organization founded in 2011. In addition to volleyball, the Spartan Sports Organization consists of football, basketball, baseball, and cheerleading. Our goal is to partner with parents as they disciple their children through participation in homeschool sports to the glory of God.
What is the vision of Spartans Volleyball?
We will endeavor to train players enrolled in our programs to put Christ first, learn and grow in their volleyball skills, and live to glorify God. All coaches, players, and other individuals in leadership positions are expected to follow Biblical guidelines on the court as well as their personal behavior off the court.
Will my child make a team?
We hope to find a place for each athlete on one of our Spartan teams. Our top teams are highly competitive and not everyone will make the team. The number of teams we can have is dependent on our budget, the ability to find qualified coaches, the number of athletes in each age group, the skill level of each athlete, and the space we have in our facility. It is our goal to create teams for each athlete but because of the aforementioned reasons, we may not be able to accommodate everyone.

What is your Statement of Faith?
We believe the Bible to be the inerrant Word of God. We believe in the one true God who is eternal.  We believe that man came by the direct creation of God and not evolution.  We believe that man was created in the image of God and that he created man and woman.  We believe man is spiritually lost and separated due to sin. We believe that Jesus was fully man and God, born of a virgin, and lived a perfect life. We believe that Jesus paid the price for our sins by the shedding of His blood on the cross. We believe Jesus died on the cross, his body was laid to rest in a tomb for three days and then was fully resurrected on the third day. After the Resurrection, Jesus, fully alive was then seen by hundreds of reliable witnesses, and the account was documented in the Bible. We believe that salvation is by grace alone and by believing in and accepting Christ as your personal Savior.  As believers and followers of Christ, we are called to live lives pleasing to the Lord and to abstain from sinful practices that grieve Him.  We believe that God is the giver of life, and all human life is sacred and to be protected and preserved. We believe in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through word and deed but not forcing God or his laws upon anyone who does not believe. We believe all people have the right to hear and to choose for themselves whether to follow Jesus, but WE reserve the right to teach Jesus on our courts and in our homeschool sports community.
Do you have a gender statement?
We believe at Spartans Sports all people are made in the image of a holy, righteous God. This means every human being has immeasurable worth, dignity, and value. We believe God created two genders, male and female. (Genesis 1:27) We believe the Scriptures show God assigns gender in the womb to children and identifies gender by their biological and anatomical traits. Therefore, Spartans Volleyball reserves the right to address children by their God-given gender.
We know that some children struggle with gender dysphoria and are aware this can be a natural process of development. We know and recognize this is often a heart-breaking struggle for both the child and the family, and we encourage both to seek the help needed from counselors. We at Spartans Volleyball reserve the right to protect both the child struggling with gender dysphoria or same-sex attraction, as well as all other athletes who attend Spartans Volleyball. Therefore, bullying will not be tolerated. When relational conflict occurs, we expect parents to work out their concerns with other parents in a loving and Christ-like manner.  We also expect parents to lead and direct their children in appropriate behavior while participating in Spartans Volleyball events.
The leadership of Spartans Volleyball has deep convictions around gender and sexual ethics that flow from the Scriptures. We also have compassionate hearts. We hope both our conviction and compassion are felt. We know every child/family situation is unique, so the Board reserves the right to view each situation individually and make decisions that will benefit and protect the Spartans Volleyball program, Spartan athletes, and families involved in the organization.
Do you have guaranteed playing time?
Playing time will not be equal among the players. If you are interested in getting the most playing time – or equal playing time – high school Spartan sports may not be for you. Families/Athletes will sign a Playing Time Contract at the beginning of the season.
What is the Code of Conduct?
As you become part of the Spartan Family you represent the Spartan Family. Please see details about our code of conduct in the attached contract. Spartans’ code of conduct contract applies to our athlete’s behavior on and off the court. Families/Athletes will sign a Code of Conduct Contract at the beginning of the season.
Are ALL Practices, Games, and Tournaments required?
Yes, we expect commitment from our players and parents with exceptions for only health reasons and family emergencies. Please notify your coach before the date if you will not be at a practice or a game. Missing practices can affect playing time.
What is included in the Fees?
Fees include practice time, uniforms, practice shirts, coaches, refs for home games, AND all the fun involved with Spartans volleyball!
Why is it so expensive?
Our gym fees have gone up (to $40 per court per hour) and having more tournaments (about $300 per team per tournament) means our fees will also be going up. Put away $100 a month, text the grandparents, and have your kiddos take some extra babysitting jobs this summer! Without any fundraising, fees will be as follows: Girls Varsity Black- $900; Varsity Royal-$900; JV Black- $850; JV Royal- $850; 14U-$800; 12U- $750; Varsity Boys- $900; JV Boys Black- $850; JV Boys Royal- $850; MS Boys- $750
We know that’s a lot but if you break it down: Varsity girls cost $900 and have at least 51 matches. 900 divided by 51=$17.65 per match! 12U girls cost $750 and have at least 33 matches. 750 divided by 33=$22.73 per match. This includes practice time, uniforms, practice shirts, coaches, refs for home games, AND all the fun involved with Spartans volleyball!
A more complete fee breakdown is handed out at the beginning of the season.
What is included in the uniform?
2 Practice Shirts, and 2 Jerseys.
All the girls’ teams are using their jerseys from last year (2023). If you can reuse your jersey from last year, you’ll get a $20 credit for each jersey on your 2024 fees! You can use a uniform from a graduating senior or friend who isn’t returning. The boys should be getting new uniforms!
***Players provide their own spandex, knee pads, court shoes, and ankle braces (recommended).
Do you fundraise?
Additional Fundraising is necessary to ensure all expenses are covered. Our Fundraising Coordinator will communicate all opportunities to participate. We have a garage sale on 4/27/24 please consider donating or shopping!
How will Spartans Volleyball communicate with players and parents?
Coaches can decide how they want to communicate with their teams. Some coaches use GroupMe and some use BAND.
As an organization, we may use something to communicate with everyone. Last season we used Stack Team. We aren’t sure what we will use next season. EMAIL will also be used by our Volleyball Management Team to communicate any additional info such as payment updates, fundraising opportunities, etc.
Each team has a Team Mom. The board has a GroupMe with the Team Moms. Often communication goes out to the Team Moms first and then they communicate information to the team’s group messaging.
How are the Coaches selected?
Our Volleyball Board will review and appoint coaches for each team. Any changes are approved by the board.  Expectations of our coaches can be found in the Spartans Athletic Handbook. Each year the coaches are reevaluated, and the board decides which coaches to ask back for the next season.
